Twenty-five young scholars from around the world attended a workshop on institutional analysis in Moscow, Russia in May 2010. Participants presented their own research projects, working closely with faculty and getting comments and guidance. Twelve faculty members also lectured on institutional perspectives, effective communication, and research strategies and results. An earlier workshop on institutional analysis was held in Beijing, China in December 2008. There were twenty-five young scholars from around the world participating.
Applied Econometrics Seminar for the Analysis of Micro Data December 8-11, 2008 Hong Kong, China Co-sponsored by the University of Hong Kong Professor Sebastian Galiani conducted a seminar focusing on the use of econometric methods to study the institutions – laws, rules, customs, and norms—that govern real economies and affect transaction costs. Topics included the investigation of micro data, the evaluation of social programs, and the management of panel data. Sessions were both theoretical and applied. Thirty-nine participants from several countries participated.
Conference on Property Rights and Economic Reform December 10, 2008 Hong Kong, China Co-sponsored by Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the opening up of China's economy, the conference examined the economic system at work that brought about such remarkable success in China's economic development. Highlights of the conference were a joint paper and a welcome note from Ronald Coase, and a public lecture by Douglass North. Also on the program were Steven Cheung via conference call, Lee Benham, Lennon Choy, Sebastian Galiani, Gary Libecap, John Nye, Mary Shirley, Yun-Wing Sung, Ning Wang, Chenggang Xu, Colin Xu, Yang Yao, and Weiying Zhang.
